Dining Tables

Dining tables from Ethnicraft, Dovetail, and Mercana. Solid European oak and reclaimed teak construction. Round, rectangular, and extendable designs seating 4 to 12. Clean modern profiles with traditional joinery and no visible fasteners.

Ethnicraft Dining Table Collections

Ethnicraft produces 9 of the 13 dining tables in this collection. The Bok table features the signature curved trestle base in solid oak. The PI table has angular, geometric legs. The Corto extendable table adds a butterfly leaf for flexible seating — compact for everyday use, expandable for entertaining. The Oak Mikado table has a distinctive star-base pedestal. Teak tables (Slice, Circle) offer warm brown tones with weather-resistant construction suitable for covered outdoor dining. All tables use solid wood with no veneers, built with mortise-and-tenon joinery.

Choosing the Right Table Size

Allow 24 inches of table length per person. A 72-inch (6-foot) table seats 6 comfortably, or 8 with chairs at each end. A 96-inch (8-foot) table seats 8-10. Round tables: 48 inches seats 4, 54 inches seats 6, 60 inches seats 8. For the room, leave 36 inches minimum between the table edge and walls or furniture — 42-48 inches is more comfortable for chair pullback in a dining room you walk through regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big should my dining table be for my room?

Measure your dining room and subtract 6 feet (3 feet per side for chair clearance and walkway). The remaining space is your maximum table size. A 12x14 foot room fits a 72-inch rectangular table with room to move. A 10x12 room suits a 48-54 inch round table. If your dining area is open to the kitchen or living room, you have more flexibility since there are fewer walls constraining movement.

What is the difference between oak and teak dining tables?

Oak is lighter in color with a prominent grain, designed for indoor use. Teak is darker, denser, and naturally moisture-resistant — it works indoors or in covered outdoor areas. Ethnicraft oak tables come in natural, black-stained, and smoked finishes. Teak tables are varnished in a warm brown tone or can be left to weather naturally to a silver-grey patina outdoors. For an indoor-only dining room, choose based on the color and grain you prefer.

Do extendable tables wobble when extended?

The Ethnicraft Corto uses a butterfly-leaf mechanism integrated into the table structure — the leaf stores inside the table and unfolds without separate supports. When extended, the table is stable because the leaf locks into the frame. The base and legs do not change position. This is different from cheaper extension tables that add leaves between separated halves, which can create instability.
